A tribute to Come Summer
Come Summer was born in 1983 and was originally purchased by Ward and Roberta Williford from Dallas, Tx as a racing prospect. He ran once as a 2 year old and won. They went on to race him as a 3 year old. He arrived at Canterbury Park with his trainer Rusty Arnold. He ran 4 races, won all 4, set 3 track records, one of which still stands today. He won the Fort Snelling Stakes, The Edina Handicap and the Canterbury Derby. In one of the derby prep races, Come Summer beat the outstanding horse Smile He was named Canterbury Park’s “Horse of the Year” in 1985. In 2000, he was inducted into Canterbury Park’s Hall of Fame.
The Willifords followed Come Summer around the United State during his racing carrier while he won 14 races and earned over $360,000
After the Williford’s retired Come Summer from Racing, Wind N Wood Farm purchased him as a stallion prospect. Many of his foals went on to be successful race horses.
